SERIO 1964 Pastry Shop in Massafra, Taranto
AFA Arredamenti oversaw the renovation of a historic pastry shop and ice cream parlor in Puglia.
The interior design project for Serio 1964 stems from the desire to revitalize one of Massafra's most well-known historic businesses, preserving its identity and deep connection to the city . The project is part of a space that has been a community landmark for decades, reinterpreting it in a contemporary way without altering its authenticity.
A central element of the project is the relationship with the existing architecture. The space, characterized by a prominent vaulted ceiling with lateral arches, possesses a strong spatial presence and an architectural quality capable of defining the character of the space itself . The design choice was therefore to enhance this structure, giving it a leading role and building around it a new, warm, and immediately recognizable visual language.
The color palette draws on the pop codes of Serio's visual identity and is translated into the space through materials and finishes with a welcoming, contemporary tone . The counter, the true focal point of the space, is covered with soft, elongated caramel-colored tiles , reminiscent of biscuits and pastries. This element thus becomes not only a functional surface, but a distinctive feature of the project, capable of communicating texture, warmth, and identity .
The project strikes a balance between memory and renewal, between the architectural value of the building and a new, fresher, brighter, and more contemporary atmosphere. The result is a coherent and recognizable space , where the souls of the pastry shop, bar, and tobacconist coexist harmoniously within an environment that renews Serio 1964 without betraying its history.
